FERNDALE, MI COUPLE TO EMBARK ON 685 MILE BICYCLE TOUR FROM DETROIT, MI TO WASHINGTON D.C.
DETROIT, MI, July 2021— On the morning of August 28, 2021, Ferndale, MI residents, Jeff and Wendy Carek will begin a self-supported bicycle tour to raise awareness about the Suicide and Mental Health issues plaguing our countries Law Enforcement Officers. The ride will begin in front of the Detroit, MI Public Safety Headquarters located at 1301 3rd Ave. and will end in front of the Police Memorial, on the Mall in Washington D.C. in the afternoon of September 5, 2021.
Jeff, a retired Deputy Sheriff, has lost two partners and numerous other law enforcement acquaintances to suicide. Jeff has also been diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, and depression stemming from his Law Enforcement career. Jeff and Wendy hope to bring awareness to these issues surrounding our Law Enforcement Professionals as they interact with and meet people along the route. The route takes them from Detroit, MI to Washington D.C. by way of Toledo, OH; east through Lorain/ Elyria, OH; south through the Cuyahoga National Valley into Akron/ Canton, OH; then east into Pittsburg, PA. Once in Pittsburg they will travel via the Great Allegany Passage and C&O Trails into Washington D.C.
